It’s Almost Christmas…

It’s almost Christmas and everything seems picture perfect here in Northern Michigan. The snow coming down, the bare trees covered in snow, the Christmas music in the background seem to add to the beauty of the season.

Then I think of the reason that we as Christians celebrate Christmas. We don’t just celebrate his birth, but the real reason for his coming, to die for us. I’m so glad that he came in human flesh to save us, the perfect sacrifice to take away our sins. He didn’t stay in the grave though.

Now that is something to really celebrate about.

If that is something to celebrate, then it is something to tell others also. We need to (I included) share Jesus’ love this season and tell others the good news of his coming to save us. I want to share his love this Christmas with others and I need all the help I can get.

Have a Merry Christmas and remember that Christ came to die for you.

THE Game

The rivalry between the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Michigan Wolverines is THE biggest in sports (just ask a fan). The big game is going to be this Saturday, only two days away and everyone that watches college football (and some who don’t) are talking about it. What is at stake is more than a perfect record of all wins. At stake is THE win of the biggest rivalry game in sports.

Who is going to win? Of course I think the Buckeyes are going to because they are my favorite, but the statistics have something to say also.

When Michigan played at Minnesota the score was 28-14. When Ohio state played Minnesota, 44-0. The Buckeyes did have a home field advantage, but the difference is too great to be ignored. Ohio State vs. Indiana; 44-3, Michigan at Indiana 34-3. When Ohio State played Penn State the final score was 28-6 and when Michigan played at Penn State 17-10. Again, Michigan played away, but the difference is substantial. This keeps going. Michigan vs. Michigan St. 31-13, Ohio State AT Michigan St. 38-7. Ohio State AT Iowa; 38-17, Michigan vs. Iowa 20-6. Michigan vs. N’western 17-3, Ohio State AT N’western 54-10.

The last one is a killer. Michigan had home field advantage and yet OSU scored 37 points more (N’western also scored a touchdown more against OSU). Another thing to consider is that the Buckeyes played second string in all of the games and some of their third string.

So all of the Buckeyes out there can be comforted that OSU is capable of crushing the little animals in the big game - but we will still be praying.

The stats I used are included below

Book Review: The Hiding Place by Corrie Ten Boom

In Corrie Ten Boom’s book The Hiding Place she shares her experiences of how She and her family helped hide Jews during World War II and later how she and her sister, Betsie where arrested and eventually taken to Ravensbruck, Germany where thousands of innocent men and women died including Corrie’s sister.

But the story behind the story is how God helped her and protected her as she was in a concentration camp, how her sister Betsie helped her to praise God, even for the fleas that infested their living quarters, and how to overcome hate with love-all with God’s help.
Who would of thought that this fifty-year old lady who lived with her elderly father and sister in a little house above their watchmaker’s shop would ever have a story to tell-a story that she would tell all over the world about God’s work in her life-a story that people more then fifty years later would read?

The Hiding Place was written over 35 years ago but ramians a powerful testimony of God’s love and provision in the midst of severe difficulty.

Invincibility

Have you ever had that feeling of “invincibility”? You flex your muscles, Take in a big breath, Feel the blood coursing through your veins and you think to yourself “why I almost feel like could run through a brick wall and not even hurt myself”. You’ve probably had this feeling when you where young and strong. I had that feeling today and then a thought struck me “We humans are so frail and weak” and realized that I could die any moment and nothing that I could do would save myself. I could be in a car crash, trip on the sidewalk and bash my head in or catch a deadly virus and die. We always need to keep in mind that the only reason we are still breathing is that God is graceful enough to let us wicked, sinful beings live and that He could take our life away any moment and snuff it out like a candle.

We have a very short life to live and lots to do. Jesus in Mark 16:15 says “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation.” (ESV). We have much to do and we better do all we can with the life God has given us and realize that God can take it away in a moment. So if you ever get that feeling of “invincibility” remember that God can take your life at any moment.
